Unrecognized Database Format - confused???

M

MsGiraffe

I created a database on my computer using Word to use for our auction at my
son's school. I wanted to go into the database and print it out. I went to
the C drive as I could not find it any where else. I found the database in
"My data sources" but when I try to open it, I get an error message
"Unrecognized database format: How could this be since I don't have Access
as part of my Office package? I can open it in Word but cannot print out the
Database. How do I correct this problem so I can access the database and
keep using it ? Also, to keep it from happening in the future. Thanks so
much in advance for your help - I am perplexed to say the least!

At best Word creates documents with tables, not databases. They can
however be used as a data source IF you label the columns. Access
creates real databases. What did you actually create, and why can't you
print the document.

If you don't have Access then use Mail Merge to print the contents. What you
want to do is a Directory for your Main Document setup so the records will
merge consecutively instead of on separate pages.

If you create a data source in Word for mail merge an Access database will
be created. I suspect that's what happened, anyway.

Ah, ok, I see how it was created. I've always had "real databases" to
start with, so never went that route before. Then the answer to
MsGiraffe (with my apologies), is to either start Excel and Open it
there (you will need to pick files of type "All data sources") or merge
it into a Word table with all the fields that exist in your database,
and then you may print that.
