Unrecognized database format

Access 97 will not open a downloaded Access database file (445Kb). Get above message, when I click on help it references a 3343 error. Have tried all the Access repair and compact utilities - still get the same error message. Open Access file in Word - looks similar to good Access files. Is there a utility to fix the file or am I dealing with some backwards compatiablility issures

Access is NOT backwards compatible. Access97 will not be able to open
a database created in Access 2000/2002/2003. Contact the source of the
database and see if they can use Tools... Database Utilities...
Convert to save the database in A97 format.

Note that opening a database in Word will irreversibly and totally
corrupt it... even if you don't save it.
