Unsuccessful Office 2003 SP-1 Update

Bert

I have Office 2003 Educational version.

My many attempts at installing this critical update are
always unsuccessful. Although it warns me that I may
need my installation CD it never asks for it (I have also
tried with it in the drive anyway)nor does it
consistently asks for my approval of the license
agreement. When I check "finished" after an unsuccessful
install and go to the help section, all it addresses are
unsuccessful updates to Office XP, which I have never
installed. I also find nothing in the knowlege base.

I am running this on my IBM T40, running Windows XP Pro.
I also have the exact unsuccessful install on my Compaq
5000US running Windows XP Home addition. Yes, I have
activated each of my two Office 2003 installs (3 are
permitted in the educational release).

Is this problem unique to me are all educational versions
a problem? I'm at a loss as to what I should do next.

I have the exact same issue on my PC.

I went to the Office 2003 update page and instead of running the scan I went
down the page to the Office 2003 updates section. That took me to a page
where an administrator can download the patch. I did, and expanded the patch
file into a folder and did a sucessful update from there.

Exact same problem here. I have emailed MS but no response
yet since over ten days. I hope someone knowledgeable is
monitoring this so we can get a fix.

Bert,
I had the exact same problem you are describing. But I
hunted around the Microsoft web site until and found a
way to download that critical update to my computer, then
I could install it from there. Then all the other patches
installed OK from the web site. However I still can't get
Power Point to run. Sorry I can't tell you exactly where
I found the download option, but it's there somewhere.
Good luck.

I had this problem on 3 computers, the work around is to go to the office site and download the patches onto your hard drive. then just double click them for an error free update.
