Unsuccessful Update Office 2003

Up to the last suite of Office 2003 updates installation was successful. The
last suite of eight updates, 14/02/07, none will install although all but one
downloads from the Office update page. The log would suggest that the updates
cannot match my GUID. As far as I am aware this has not changed from the
previous updates and as 91E30409 seems to represent my installation. The
support assistance site says my Product ID is invalid and this has not
changed since installation. The Office suite is activated and validated. Any
suggestions please.

I am having the same problems:
KB924885 Update for Outlook Junk Mail filter
KB929060 PowerPoint security Update
KB920813 Security Update for Office 2003
KB929064 Security Update Office 2003
KB929057 Security Update Office 2003
KB929058 Security update for Word
KB925251 Update for Office

the only message I get is "Failed"
I followed all the steps laid out in the Knowledge Base KB304498.

The same updates plus one left over from January KB924085. I worked through
KB304498 but much of it was already in place and did not help. Have you
solved the problem with KB304498 or are you still unable to install?

I finally got them installed. I put the Office disk in and did a
repair, prior to that I deleted/disabled with the LISTool.

Being idle before working through Method 13 I tried the Repair that Rick did
but got and error both from the hard disk store and from the CD. I have not
done the LISTool Method 13 as I don't understand what that might do if there
is a problem now with the CD. It bothers me that updates installed
successfully up to and including one on the 6th Dec 2006. From what Rick has
said it is possible the LIStool did not fix the problem but the repair from
the CD did.
The error messages were: From "Reinstall and Repair" on the C drive - "Fatal
Error during Installation" and from the CD "MS Set Up could not complete the
installation" followed fatal error etc.
Where to now?

Then give the following a try

1st Rename Office subkeys

Note: Removing the following registry keys may reset customized user
settings for your Microsoft Office programs.

1. Close all the applications.
2. Click on Start->Run, type in REGEDIT and click on OK.
3. Locate and select the following registry subkeys:

HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Office\11.0
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Microsoft\Office\11.0

4. Right click on 11.0 and rename them to Old11.
5. Close the Registry Editor.

2nd. Detect and Repair Office 2003

1. On the Windows taskbar, click Start, point to and click Control Panel.
2. Double-click Add/Remove Programs.
3. Click Change/Remove Programs on the left pane.
4. Highlight Microsoft Office Professional Edition 2003 on the right pane
and click Change.
5. Insert the correct version of CD when it requires.
6. Select "Reinstall and Repair" and click Next.
7. Select "Detect and Repair errors in my Office installation".
8. Click Install and wait the process to end.

3rd. Install the Update

I was just coming back to say I have managed to install the updates.
Listool did not work so I restored the computer from a disk image that I
created shortly before the last successful update in December. Fortunately at
the time I was not following the incremental path so I had a number of full
disk images available. I was concerned that it might not work as this was the
first time I had tried to use the facility. It worked and I could install the
updates straight away. I then tried a "Detect and Repair" from the original
Office CD which also worked. There was a lot of file copyjng activity during
the repair if that is significant. Strangely the update that I had installed
in December did not show when I subsequently did an Office upate at the
update site. So far I have not discovered anything not working. The OS is
Windows 2000 Pro so without system restore it may be wise to do regular back
ups of the Registry. At the moment I am reading the series of relevent KBs. I
have saved a copy of your suggestion for future use. Thank you very much for
your help.

What worked for me is found in the microsoft help and support article ID
884298. It is a solution for what can happen when you use a registry
cleaner, and the value of the original source for the Office software is
deleted. For me, I had to use the registry editor to add a subkey called
"Path" where the value was "D:\" (my CD drive) because I used a CD to install
office.
