Unusual irq issue that I have only seen on Windows XP2

I have nowhere else to turn on this one.

Approximately one year ago, I upgrade my win2K machine to Windows XP using
the upgarde edition. I also received SP2 as a separate download which I
installed right away after upgrading.

The PC is a P4 2.8Ghz, with Nvidia AGP card. Almost immediately I started
having an issue intermittently. When the system was booting up, it would lock
hard. The only way I could get it back was to reboot, and then start in safe
mode. And then, it would only come back if I uninstalled and reinstalled my
video drivers.

This went on for a few months, eventually getting to the point where I could
no longer just uninstall and reinstall the video card. I believed that there
was an irq conflict with the video card and the usb ports as the lockup often
occurred when I had something plugged into the usb.

I started chasing updates on the video card and the Albatron 865PE Pro
motherboard, the BIOS does not allow me to allocate a separate irq for the
AGP card, and I'm not sure that it matters with Windows XP.

Eventually I discovered that all my issues disappeared when I uninstalled
SP2! And I mean completely. I have twice in the last 6 months reloaded SP2,
and the system will work fine for a limited amount of time, which may be
dependant upon my use of the usb ports, and then the issue will return.

If anyone knows of what the possible cause could be to this issue, I would
be pretty darn happy.

I'd suggest asking in a newsgroup related to WinXP.

This newsgroup is for questions about setting up and configuring Access, the
databse product that's part of Office Professional.
