"unusual" Runtime error when I replaced Outlook '03 with '02

I accidentally installed Office 2003 on my re-hard-drived
laptop, and uninstalled, then installed 2002 (2002 is what
I originally had installed, so I could use the same
activation key). All the other Office products are working
fine, but I get the following message when I try to start
Outlook:

Runtime Error!

Program: C:\Program Files\Microsoft Office\Office10
\OUTLOOK.EXE

This application has requested the Runtime to terminate it
in an unusual way. Please contact the application's
support team for more information.

I tried installing the Windows XP and Office patches, re-
installing the entire Office suite, nothing is working.
Help! I'm stuck with Thunderbird until I get this fixed!

Thanks Andreas. The error comes up when I try to start
Outlook, not when I create a new message -- so I can't get
to the Tools menu as your instructions suggest. Is there a
way around this?
