unwanted blank page at end of document

I have a Word 2008 document that ends with a 2-row table. The document seems to have an unwanted line return, and therefore shows on the screen and prints with an unwanted final blank page. When I place the cursor on the top of this blank page, I cannot back space to eliminate the unwanted page.

Suggestions?

hi Craig,

Hit ¶ on the toolbar to show nonprinting characters. There's probably a
¶ after the table, causing your problem. You can't delete it, because
Word stores a lot of information in the final paragraph mark in a doc,
but you can format it at 1pt (or set it to Hidden, I think). One or both
of those might be enough to get rid of the final page.

Thanks very much, Dalya. The hidden par. symbol was indeed there, and could not be deleted. However, when I set its size at 1 point, as you suggested, that was a short enough line to print at the end of the previous page, instead of running onto the next blank page. So it did resolve the problem.
