Unwanted drop-down message

I have an iMac OS-X v 1.5, and am using Word X v 1.2 .

Q: Re Edit> Find & Replace, my question yesterday was
answered successfully, but now whenever and each time I
click my double arrow to scroll down page by page, I keep
getting a drop-down message-"Word has reached the end of
the document. Do you want to continue searching at the
beginning?" How do I turn off this repeating annoyance?
Thanks much in advance.

Oops. Hit the wrong button. Anyway ...

Hi Bill,

Do you mean that even when the Find/Replace dialog is closed, you are
getting the "Word has reached the end of the document" message every time
you try to scroll? That's very weird.

You may have a corrupt document or a corrupt Normal template.

To test the first, turn on Show/Hide formatting so you can see all the
hidden symbols, copy all but the very last paragraph mark and paste into a
blank new Word document. Any help?

If not, test your Normal template as follows: Quit Word and navigate to
your Normal template which should be in
/Applications/Microsoft Office X/Templates/. Rename Normal to something else
(like OldNormal), then relaunch Word. If this fixes the problem but you
have customizations, etc, in OldNormal that you want to maintain, you can
use Organizer to transfer those from OldNormal to the newly-created Normal
template. Then you can trash the old renamed file. To learn how to use
Organizer, see here (use IE not Safari to view this site):
<http://www.mvps.org/word/FAQs/WordMac/MacWordNormalTemplate.htm>

If this doesn't fix the problem, quit Word again, trash the new Normal and
rename OldNormal back to Normal.

Hope this helps.

Unless they changed it in X, those double arrows at the bottom of your
scroll bar do not mean PageDown, but Browse to Next, Next being whatever was
last selected in the menu that pops up when you tap the tiny round button
between the double arrows. So after you do a Find/Replace, Browse to Next
remains set to Find, and of course Word doesn't find the word anymore.

So no problems with your setup, just an over-designed program.

Instead of clicking the double arrow, you could just click the scroll bar to
go down roughly one page, or set yourself a PageDown keystroke in Tools |
Customize, Keyboard...
