Unwanted Endnotes line

I'm in Word 4, version 11.5.0 for Mac OSX version 10.4.11. finishing
up a book, and just above the endnotes is a gray, horizontal line that
I don't want. It separates my Endnotes caption and the notes, and it's
against the left-hand margin, about 2-3 inches long. How do I get rid
of it?

Correction...that should have been Word 2004.

View Normal, then View Footnotes. Go down to Endnote pane, and change
the dropdown to Endnote Separator. Delete the line.

If your endnotes cover multiple pages, you may also need to delete an
Endnote Continuation Separator.
