Unwanted full line separating text from footnotes

I know how to delete the footnote separator line; this is another issue. Occasionally I find a blue line in my text on screen (nothing that I have added), which shows up in page layout (and in print)as a full black line the entire width of the text, between the text and the footnote section. I cannot find any formatting that would cause this and I am unable to remove it. Anyone have an idea of what this is and how to delete it?

Rare, but the only thing that comes to mind is if there is some sort of page
break or Next Page Section Break being misinterpreted by the printer. Have
you checked to see if there may be an updated driver available for your
printer? There have been any number of Leopard-related print issues.

Does the line shoe up if you print to PDF?
