Unwanted lines in Word

U

UW grad student

I have unwanted lines appearing in my Word document. They are not formatted
- checked by using the show/hide formatting button. I don't know how they
got there. When I delete the area above and below the line it disappears but
when I either paste or retype the missing information the line reappears.
This is my Master's thesis and don't want to turn in an unprofessional
looking paper. Can anyone help?

Not sure where you're copying and pasting from, but you should always use
Edit | Paste Special | Unformatted Text so that you don't copy formatting
into your document.

Having said that, it sounds as if your line is most likely a border. If
that is the case, Format | Borders and Shading and select None.

If they go from margin to margin, they could be paragraph borders (Format >
Borders and Shading). If they diappear in Normal view they are graphics
elements of some sort.

To the 3 people who answered this post, you are lifesavers!

I, too, am a grad student who had the same problem. I was so frustrated,
almost in tears!

Thanks much for your help!
