Hi, Bob,

Have you tried to install your software again?

Do you have Office XP with FrontPage installed, and is that the CD you are
inserting?

If you look at the post titled update problems (below
this one) you can see that i've got a lot of problems. I
don't have the discs for this machine as it was all pre
installed from PCWorld. A while ago a friend gave me a
disc with some software and photos on it, on there
unknown to me was a pirate copy of xp prof, which i
inadvertantly clicked on, after threatening my friend he
came round and corrected my system. After he had done he
said that i had office on my system but had not found it
so he set it up. All was ok for about 6-8 months using
excell and word. I don't even know what frontpage does
let alone use it! When i tried to update office the
official site says that my copy is already used!!! Help,
have i got a serious problem???

HELP!!!

Well...not knowing what all your friend did, I think I would ask your friend
to uninstall whatever version of Office he used (you'll need his original
CDs), then check in with PCWorld to ask them to help you restore your system
to the legally licensed state. Ask them for a copy of CDs so that you can
do your own updates to the Microsoft products. They need to provide support
the copies that they install. They may charge you a small CD duplicating
fee. If they are unwilling to do this, ask them to give you instructions on
how to update your computer to the latest service packs.
