Unwanted page re-sizing

M

MEB

I just got a new machine which has Word 2002. Certain Word
docs are opening in a larger page size than I have set in
File | Page Setup | Paper. I have it set to 8.5 / 11 and
the actual paper size showing in Print Layout is at
least .5 inches wider. It messes everything up, obviously,
when printed. Even when I create a PDF, the PDF shows as a
wide doc. I have tried 2 printer drivers with no luck
(generic and HP).

But the most curious and perhaps the biggest clue is when
you first open the doc it looks normal then it flips to
the wider paper once Word is done grabbing all the pages.

Any help on why Word is re-sizing the page size on the fly?
thanks!

This is normal behavior if you have Track Changes enabled. The extra width
is to display the "balloons." When you print, the page will be scaled. You
can turn this feature off in Tools | Options | Track Changes, or you can
just turn off change tracking if it is not meant to be on.
