Unwanted paragraph markings

Hi,

I accidentally clicked to touched or --- a butterfly flew by--and suddenly a Word Notebook (which I love, by the way) document became filled with tons of what I call markup---standard proofreading stuff, not html.

I went to some of the menus and got rid of most of it. But--the dang paragraph signs are staying, and also I can't get rid of the bullets I'd earlier tried to use (and failed)...I went to the bullets area and clicked NONE for each type, but---no luck.

So I have a lotta lotta paragraph symbols and bullets, unfortunately on ALL the sections.

I feel like an idiot, as I only recently bought Word (right before they upgraded, UGH!) because I simply had to. I've scoured the menus, and Help--well, didn't. ; )

Unfortunately, this is a really important document.

Can anybody help? Thank you so much if you've read my sad tale.

: )

Hi Paula -

Sounds like you've simply turned on what are called "non-printing
characters" - they are a very helpful tool when revising & formatting a
document. They can be toggled on/off using the ¶ button on the Standard
toolbar or keying Command+8. For more about them see:

http://word.mvps.org/FAQs/Formatting/NonPrintChars.htm

As for the Bullets, they are probably the result of the non-printing
characters being displayed and aren't really bullets - they're indicators
that certain types of paragraph formatting have been used in those
paragraphs. If they *are* actually bullets and don't go away when you turn
off the ¶ you'll need to select the text involved before turning the
Bulleting off.
