Unwanted small .gifs inserted in outgoing emails

When I send an email, 8 small green squares (.gifs) are attached to the outgoing email. They don't appear in the sent email in my sent folder, I only know it is happening because people come back to me asking why they are there.

I have removed and re-installed Outlook 2002 and they stopped for a day or 2 and now they are back in my sent emails again. I am using Word as my editor and they look a bit like bullets - could that have something to do with it? Where are they coming from and what do I do to stop it?

Thanks and regards

Did you specify a Style or Theme to be used with Outlook or Word? Open
Word, under Format, select Themes and see if you have a theme specified.

thanks very much for taking the time to reply. There are no themes selected but I too have a hunch that Word is causing the problem somehow, so I have disable it as the emial editor - here's hoping it work
