Unwanted Toolbars Open

When I open certain documents in Word, two toolbox open: "Control Toolbox"
and "Exit Design Mode." Then when I attempt to close the document, without
having made any changes, I'm prompted to "Save Changes." What's up with
this? Is there a way to tell Word not to load these toolboxes and not to
ask me to save document when I've made no changes?

Thanks,

Thanks, this addresses about a third of my problem. The main or primary
issure has to do with:

"Exit Design Mode." Then when I attempt to close the document,
without having made any changes, I'm prompted to "Save Changes."

The Control Toolbox Toolbar appears only in a few of these documents. But
it's the Exit Design Mode that is associated with being prompted to save
changes when none were made.

Thanks for your help!

I'll be honest--I sheepishly hoped that by getting rid of the designers
using the macro quoted in the document that this would also solve your
exit design mode problem. Sorry it didn't work.

Based on other postings I read about your situation in another group, it
sounded like ActiveX controls got into your document when you were saving
things from the web. Searching the archives, I found this potential
solution, although I can not vouch if it will work:

"Opening in design mode is a specific symptom of Word finding (or
thinking it found*) and disabling a macro or an ActiveX control in a
document. If there are none in the document, but there are macros in
its attached template, then the macros are disabled if the template is
not trusted, but design mode doesn't appear.

"... a document that has ever had a macro stored in it will continue to
trigger Word's allergic response even after the macro is deleted. This can
be cured by saving the document in RTF format and back into Word format."

Worth a try, anyway!

Hope this helps
