Unwanted Updates

I have 3 different versions of a file with similar names such as: File Name
(2006) 1.doc and File Name (2006) 2:doc. Today as I was working in one I
made changes, saved them, opened one of the other versions and found that all
3 versions are updating with changes that I've made. I don't want it to do
this. Do you have any ideas what may have happened?

Are you certain they are actually copies of the file and not shortcuts
to the original file? Locate a copy of the file in the Windows
Explorer, right-click the document and select "Properties". If you see
a Shortcut tab with a Target to the original file then they are
shortcuts rather than copies.
