After transfuring my data from old XP computer to new Vista Computer with
belkin cable and laplink PC sync software many of my address book address's
won't allow me to send e-mail (invalid entryid was passed in) in message
given. All of my contacts are intact. How do I rectify my address book
problem? Have not been able to overwrite address book names from contacts. I
am using outlook for e-mail not outlook express. Puchased windows 2007 for
bussiness version.

First, verify that you are even using Outlook. It seems as if you are not
since Outlook does not even use an address book. If you are using Outlook,
this would be the worst way to transfer data because it would lose
information and invalidate all your email addresses. The correct methods for
transferring Outlook data are posted here every day.

Outlook most definitely uses an address book! I am having the same problem.

No, it doesn't. It uses a service called the "Outlook Address Book" service
which enabled a view of your Contacts folder. All of your addresses come
from your Contacts folders.

R

Russ Valentine [MVP-Outlook]

Outlook uses a Contacts Folder, not an address book. If you Contacts are not
appearing as expected in the address book view of your Contacts, you must
provide the steps you used to create your problem and what you problem is.

All I know is that I have a contacts folder and an address book. When I open
it, it says Address Book:Contacts so I call that an address book just as the
first poster did. Call it what you want but either way mine is not working
correctly since switching over to a new computer. I have over 2500 contacts
and cannot take the time to fix each one individually. When transferred the
'File As' flipped around which screws up how it is filed in my iPhone and I
have a ton that give the error message (invalid entry ID) which causes my
Outlook to attempt to send the messages until I shut it down.

I looked on this group for a fix for it but who has time to fish through all
of these post? This is the thread I got to when searchng for the answer to
begin with so searchng didn't help. It would be great (speaking for myself
and the original poster) if the info was provided here or a link to the
thread.

The File As field will not change when you transfer Outlook data correctly.

As posted here many many times - do NOT use the import function to
transfer data from one Outlook to another.
I expect that having 1)copied it to your default location (did you
overwrite the existing file?) and 2) then imported, you have well and
truly corrupted your mail profile.
Create a new mail profile, and then follow these instructions:

It is totally unacceptable not to be able to import info into Outlook
Contacts Folder - the architecture is dreadfully broken. Importing and
Exporting are industry ways of doing things - if you can't run your contact
management software on a proper database and allow import and export then I
suggest that with the proliferation of mobile devices and open source office
solutions Microsoft will lose a bunch of paying customers and employees will
lose their MVP positions.

Russ, it seems that you get very frustrated when people don't know how to use
Outlook properly. The reason you are an "MVP" is to help people who don't
know as much about these things as you do. So don't get snippy when someone
does something that you think is stupid. It seems your position is to help,
not belittle.

I came to this thread for a solution to this problem and found nothing but a
petty argument. Useless. (Figures this is how Microsoft solves user problems)

Rather hard to see how you drew that conclusion. No one is frustrated when
users don't know how to use Outlook and ask questions. That's what the
newsgroups are for.
What's frustrating is to have users ignore the information we spend our
time posting here and insist that their methods should work instead of the
ones we provide. That becomes a waste of our time.

Dear All,

I've read the thread of messages and it seems a shame that any possibility
of resolving what seems to be a common problem is jepodised with unhelpful
comments aimed at the one person who may be able to help.

I have experienced a similar problem. I have just purchased a new laptop
with Vista and successfully did an Activesync with my PDA so it appears I
have all my contacts in the Contacts section of Outlook 2007. However, if I
use the "To" button when sending a new e-mail and select a contact, the
e-mail will not send. It works fine if I type the e-mail address in longhand.

Anyone know if there is a simple way of getting around this? Oh and please,
I do not understand most computer jargon so if there's a way of telling me in
simple everyday language that would be great!

Not possible because ActiveSync won't install and run an a Vista machine.
Vista uses the Windows Mobile Device Center, not ActiveSync.

So what does happen when you click To? Is your Contacts folder enabled as an
Address Book (right-click Contacts, choose Peoperties, select the Outlook
Address Book tab, and examine "Show this folder as an e-mail Address Book")?
