Up/down Bars - Line Chart

For a line chart that displays 2 lines across Jan-Dec, I enabled up/down bars
(Excel 2003). I would like to know if it is possible to show the value of the
up/down bar on the graph (in other words, show the value of the variance
between the 2 lines)? Thx

There are a couple options. One is to add another line series that has Y
values midway between up and down, hide the series (no markers, no lines)
and apply custom labels with values equal to the variance. Both of these
utilities allow you to easily assign a range of cells to the data labels of
a chart series:

Rob Bovey's Chart Labeler, http://appspro.com
John Walkenbach's Chart Tools, http://j-walk.com

The other option is to add two stacked column series to the chart, where one
is the minimum, the other is the difference. Format the lower one to be
hidden (no line, no area fill). Add Y value data labels to the second
(floating) column series, which takes the place of the up-down bars..

Thanks for the reply, Jon. For some reason, I wasn't emailed when you
replied. What you are referencing makes sense so I think I'll be able to get
it to work.
