UPC code for rebate -- where is it located????

Hi there: I just received my Office 2004 Student/Teacher edition. I
can get a $20 rebate from Amazon if I send them my proof of purchase
and UPC Code.

Problem: I know what a UPC code looks like, but I cannot find one
anywhere on the plastic tube or its contents. The only thing that
vaguely looks like a UPC code is the "Certificate of Authenticity" on
the top of the plastic container. Could that be it? If it is, will I
need the numbers off it later? The rebate coupon says it wants the
"original UPC code not a copy." I would hate to lose my $20 rebate but
I would really hate to cut up this "Authenticity" thing when I will
need the numbers off it later.

Someone please help. sincerely, aeraduns

Hi,

I tried to find the rebate at Amazon.com so that I could find out who to
contact at Amazon about this. Unfortunately, I could not find the
rebate your'e referring to. Do you have the URL? Does the rebate form
have contact information on it?

Side Note: Can't help with the rebate, but since you were initially worried
about losing something you would need later...

I have never seen the packaging, but the only number you need to install
Office is the CD Key, which should be clearly labeled CD Key, is often on a
yellow sticker, and which you should write down in multiple places and
backup, b/c you cannot reinstall without it. Actually, the student/teacher
edition is supposed to include 3 separate CD keys, write them all down.

After installing, MS might ask for your Product ID if you needed to contact
them, which shows up in the About... screen and is generated after
installation and is completely different from the CD Key.

It is conceivable that the CD key may be on the Certificate of Authenticity,
as sometimes it is on windows machines that sell Office pre-installed,
except that I can't imagine anyone would be so silly as to put the CD key on
the outside of the box. You could write the numbers down, though, if you're
worried.
