I have Office:mac2008 12.0.0 installed on my only hdd on a MacBook Pro. I downloaded latest Office :mac Update 12.0.1 and it refuses to install as it says I do not have a version of the software installed that can be updated. Now as this update is deemed critical I'd like to install it. Anyone any idea as to why this may occur?

I had the same problem. In my case, I'm guessing that it occurred because I
ran monolingual to strip out languages and architectures. I uninstalled
Office (Microsoft Office 2008 > Additional Tools > Remove Office) and
reinstalled it again. After that, I was able to install the update.

Hi Mackb
thanks for this. I have run monolingual too so I guess I'll have the same root cause. I'll do as you suggest.
