Hi [whomever] -

The first question is whether you've done the 2.1.1 update to the AutoUpdate
application itself. If not that has to be done before the 12.0.1 update can
be applied. If you aren't sure, do a Spotlight search for AutoUpdate in a
Finder window, Control-Click the found icon & choose Get Info. If the
version isn't 2.1.1 you need that update first. You can get it at th bottom
of this page:

If you still have a problem come back for further examination.

I have the same issue and can confirm that I have version 2.1.1 of the
installer. I also checked that installer can see the software and it
reports all elements under registered software. I'm running the education
version of 2008, could this be a issue?

Hi Ian -

First of all, make sure OS X is fully updated, permissions have been
repaired & restart your Mac. Then try running the updater again but key
Command+L immediately after launching it. Note what is reported in the log
window & if it doesn't "take" once applied come back with what the log says.

Which package makes no difference. The included applications - Word, Excel,
PPt & Entourage - are identical, it's just a matter of what *else* is
included in the package.

I've been puzzling over your last post & was just on the verge of
[reluctantly] suggesting just that:) I've seen a very few indications that
"something" doesn't seem to take during an Office 2008 installation with the
same type of consequence you experienced. Unfortunately there seems to be no
evidence of what actually causes the problem but reinstalling resolves it.

Anyhow, glad you got it fixed & thanks for the feedback!

Ahhh, thank you. That was it.

The error message could have been written better, because "the software" seems to be referring to Microsoft Office. But that's just English major me parsing a sentence. Still -- clarity is always nice!

But from one English major to another:) the message isn't really worded too
poorly - it refers to "the software required to install" not the software to

Hi

I've got a similar problem with 11.4.0 update for Office 2004. I'm running Tiger 10.4.11 on a G4 Powerbook (pre-intel).

It started with autoupdate (v. 1.1.2) and the message "The installer could not locate the correct version of the software required to install this update".

Never had this problem before - perfectly OK up to 11.3.9. I've downloaded the .dmg file and tried it manually - still same message.

I'm up to date on all OSX updates and verified and repaired disk permissions. Any ideas anyone?

Thanks

Normally, I advise applying all updates. However, after 11.3.9 they are just
security fixes.
I'm up to date on all OSX updates and verified and repaired disk permissions.
Any ideas anyone?

1) If the updater fails or says it cannot find a version of Office that
needs updating, then reboot and try again.

2) Use "Remove Office" and re-install. (do this step last)

3) You might need to download the combo updater from Apple and run it again
rather than using Software Update. Doing so overwrites potentially
problem-causing files. Several users have reported this fixed some odd
problems they were having. Combo updaters will install on the same version
as they¹re applying‹no need to roll back or do a clean install.

Hi Paul -

1- Make sure you have the 2.1.1 version of AutoUpdate,

2- If you do & still get the same message try:

http://www.entourage.mvps.org/install/update.html#update_fails

3-If you still have a problem it "may" be necessary to reinstall Office, but
come back with your results before you do. The correct procedure must be
followed or it won't do any good,

4- Make checks payable to...
