Update causes 100% CPU Utilization

I recently updated Word 2003 to the latest version and now clicking
the mouse when it's open or opening it for email purposes results in
Word taking up 100% of resources for at least 10 seconds. Sometimes
Word won't recover and it crashes and will send you through a loop of
recovery and reopening that never ends.

I uninstalled and reinstalled Word 2003. It worked fine prior to
service pack 2 updates. Afterwards (and I think there is a SP3) the
problem started and has rendered Word the ultimate time waster.

I've only noticed a document on old versions doing this with the
answer being to update. Has anyone seen this?

7MB! Wow! No wonder it was slow.

Thanks. For reasons I cannot describe I discovered that my Normal.dot
template was 7MB in size. After deleting it Word opened up with
lightning speed. Now I will need to discover what needs to be reset
but at least it works.
