Update CREATEDATE

I'm using CREATEDATE in word 2003 in a .dot. When i use the template to
make a new .doc is there a way to update the date automaticlly?

I'm using CREATEDATE because i don;t what the date to update everytime i
open the .doc, the date needs to stay the date the .doc was created.

If you create a new document from a template containing a CREATEDATE field
the new document will always show the date the new document was created. The
date shown in the template will be the date the template was created.

A CREATEDATE field will update automatically when you create a new document
based on the template containing the field. On the other hand, if you *open*
the template for editing, you will se the creation date of the template,
which of course remains unchanged.

When i open the .dot file the date is the created date. i then save as .doc
the date remains unchanged - i need to right click and update the field to
get the date to change. how do i do the update automaticallly?

How are you creating documents from the template? What happens?

The reason I ask is that if everything works correctly, the CREATEDATE field
*should* update automatically.

If you right-click the template icon, which action on the context menu is in
bold (and thus set as the default action)?

Don't Save As the .dot file, but open a new file that is based on that
template, as you would normally, then hopefully the new .doc will have the
new date of creation.
All the best

The correct way to create a document is to create a new one from the
template - File > New
