Update Data from Excel

If I export task/assignment data (task ID, name, work, start, finish,
resource assigned) to excel to create timesheets for a team of 30+ people,
can I automatically update MS Project 2000 with the updated Excel data for
the assigned tasks to avoid manual updates for each of the 30+ team members?
How is the best way?

We are using MS Project 2000 without project central or any emailing
capabilities.

Thanks!

Hello,
Yes, you can !
Use the Unique ID instead of the Task ID : it'll be the Merge Key
Use the Actual Work instead of the Work field
File / Open / Microsoft Excel Workbook / Use existing map / select your map
/ Merge the data into the active project /
Select the Unique ID and click the Set Merge Key button

Thanks for the feedback. When I tried this I do not see any reference to a
Merge operation. On the Import Mapping dialog box, I can highlight an
import/export map, but no option to Merge is present. We are using MSP 2000.
Is Merge not an option in MSP2000?

Thanks!

Merge IS an option in Project 2000. I used it many times.
I don't have a copy around to tell you the exact steps, but have your
project file open, then from the file menu select open, choose the excel
file. At that point watch carefully what your options are. You do not want
to append.

Sorry - I still can't find any option to merge or append - Only "OPEN" or
"CANCEL". Also, can;t find it in the Help sections.

Any other ideas from anyone?

Thanks!

In project 2002, it's the third screen on the import wizard.
File Open, point to the excel file, pick either an existing or new map

I think it is a version issue since we are using MS Project 2000 - not 2002.

Thanks.

I found it. I was not looking inside the mapping setup. Thanks for sticking
with me.

Thanks to all!

Glad you made it.
The later versions of project have a wizard to walk you through this
confusion.
