Update DIP properties without writing code?

Hi - Is there a way to update Document Information Panel properties with
values from the respective document without writing code? I want to access
these values in SharePoint but do not want to make users enter them (because
the flow will be smoother if they could do so within an Excel spreadsheet
itself).
