Nimbus
Word 2002 in Vista.
I created a totally new template containing nothing but the absolutely
essential Word styles (Heading 1 to 9, normal, etc). To this I added about
20 new paragraph styles which I hadn't used before.
When I checked the styles in the template both visually and by checking how
the style was formatted by hovering the cursor over the style in the styles
pane everything is OK.
The documents I intend to format using this template are currently set for
NO automatic updating of styles, and the documents do not currently use or
contain my new styles from the new template.
When I attach the new template to any of the documents and select update the
document styles, the styles from the new template are pulled into the
document.
BUT, 2 of the totally new styles from the template show something very
different within every document updated. Both the 2 corrupted styles have
added a bullet plus left and right indentation and tabs to the style in the
document not in the original. Bearing in mind that these styles were not in
any of the documents before attaching the template this is alarming.
For interest sake I went back to the original document and copied the styles
from the template manually using the organiser. When I do it this way the
styles get loaded into the document correctly, without bullets.
I originally thought this was something I did wrongly so I spent a whole day
recreating my work and noting down everything I did and when I did it.
However, when I get back to exactly the same situation I realise there must
be something wrong with my automatic styles updater. No matter which document
I attach the template to, the 2 styles always end up with unwanted bullets.
My questions:
1 Is it anything which is known about or is it my own personal bug?
2 How easy would it be to create a macro which would take the place of the
Word updater. It would need to allow me only to update styles when the box
was checked as in the original Word version.
