Update DocumentName field automatically in new document from templ

I have created a template that includes the field 'Document Name' in the
footer. When I create a document from the template and then name the new
document, this field is not automatically updated. I can right-click and
select update field, but the purpose of the template is to automate this.
Any suggestions??

Hi Suzanne,

This behaviour occurs in Word 2002. It's supposed make Word documents containing FILENAME fields open more quickly. The FILENAME
field still updates automatically if you do a print preview or print the document. See: http://support.microsoft.com/kb/832897 for
some other workarounds.
