update failure

I got a copy of Microsoft Office 2003 for Christmas. After the installation
I was directed to Office update where it transpired I needed two updates,
KB828041 and KB832333. The updates were duly downloaded and at that point
the update procedure failed without any explanation. I've repeated the
procedure a few times with the same result. I would be grateful for any
suggestions.

Then you may want to try downloading the patches and installing them
manually:

http://support.microsoft.com/?kbid=832333

Then if they fail you will be able to view the *.log file to determine
the cause of the failure.
