update fields - NumPages

All,

I am having trouble with the NumPages field in Microsoft Word 2002 on Win XP
Home. If I click Edit...Select All, and then press F9 to update fields in
the document, all the fields update except the NumPages fields. I have to
go through the document and manually right click on every NumPages field and
click update field for them to reflect the proper number of pages. What's
really weird is that if the NumPages field is in the header or footer, it
does update properly on the Select All - F9 sequence. Anyone have any ideas
as to why this happens?

Hi Mark,

The Alt-F9 approach only works with fields in the body of the document. A
Print preview should be enough to update a NUMPAGES field in a header or
footer.

There is no LASTPAGE field, so I'm not sure why this is working for you.
