Update Fields Options turns itself on

I am using word tables and macros to add simple statements
and they work fine. The bottom field may include a "SUM"
statement.
This all works perfectly until my computer changes its
settings itself and in tools/options/print I find that
the "update fields" has mysteriously become ticked
resulting in my bottom field adding itself automatically a
secon time when I print.
This is a real pain. How can I stop it from happening?
