Update from Office XP Professional to Office Professional 2007 pro

Dobo

Two thirds of the way into updating from Office XP Prof. to Office Prof. 2007
I had a power failure. On restarting my computer no indication of the update
failure was indicated so I restarted the update. The first message I
received was something like "An installation of the update is suspended, do
you want to undo changes" options were yes or close. I selected yes.
The update went ahead seemingly without problem until it completed its %
installation bar and then a message came up saying that the update had
encoutered a problem. The only option being to select the close button.

However everything seems to run O.K. with the updates having taken place,
but I am left with the old installation of Office XP Prof. still active as
well. I can now click on either the original icons for the XP installation
or the icons for the newly updated 2007 and both run correctly under the
chosen system.

Is this correct or should the original XP installation have been removed.
It is not required and can only lead to confusion.

Any advice would be appreciated.

Thanks

Hi, Dobo,

You can use the Windows Control Panel's Add/Remove Programs applet to remove
Office XP Pro if you no longer need it.

Hi Susan

Thanks for your reply. I am hesitant in removing the XP Pro using the
Add/Remove feature of control panel in case there are common files associated
with both the upgrade and the original XP Pro. I would hate to remove XP and
then find it had removed files also associated with 2007. The 2007 is an
upgrade to existing installed Microsoft Office. It is just my luck to find I
had removed XP and that 2007 now didn't work due to the removal of common
files. I would then be unable to reinstall 2007 because there is nothing to
update.

Again thank you for responding.

I doubt there are any shared files, but if there are, you can re-install
Office Pro 2007 to repair its installation if it no longer works.

If all else fails, you can re-install Office XP Pro, then upgrade to Office
2007 again.

That assumes you have the original installation media for Office XP.

Hope that helps--

There are no files in the Office 2007 that are common to prior versions that
are not included on the Office 2007 Professional Upgrade disc.

Recall that Office 2007 Upgrade (any edition) can be installed on a computer
with no prior version of Office installed. All you need is the prior version
CD to insert to verify that you have a qualifying product for the upgrade,
No files are copied from the older CD.

Hi Susan

Again thanks for trying to help. I will remove XP and see what happens.
It is interesting to note the other reply from Don MI who suggests no
initial installation need be present, you only need a previous version of
Office on disk to install 2007.
Anyhow whatever happens it can only mean a reinstallation of the Office
suites.

I shall let you know the outcome.

Thanks

Hi Susan

On trying to remove XP the message came up "Error 2711 Internal Error
(Remove OPSExtension Feature). " Eventually I carried out a restore to the
point where I installed 2007, after this I was able to remove XP and 2007
remained in place with so far no problems.

Thanks to both you and Don Mi for taking the time to help me out.
