Update from old version

I am considering updating my trial version of sudent home and office 2007
which does not include all the programmes in the range i.e. outlook.

I already have outlook on my old version of office 1997 and I want to know
if I install the new trial will this overwrite the original version or run
along side it?

Say again, you have a trial version of H&S and now you want to install
another trial?

You would have to uninstall the trial version of H&S, reboot, then uninstall
Outlook97, reboot, before installing any other trial or version that
includes Outlook

I believe Office 97 is a qualifying product for an Office 2007 upgrade

You will not be able to use the Send As feature in the 2007 version with
your Outlook 97. And Outlook 97 is not a qualifying product - they cut if
off at Office 2000. I don't know if you will run into other issues but I'd
be surprised if you didn't.
