Update/Install should provide files when told original CD unavail

C

CD Not Available

Windows Office Pro advises updates required and available. It asks if you
have the original program CDs. You click on the box telling it "No they are
not available" and to download without the CDs. It asks you this before it
starts downloading (approx 1 hour of downloads). Then after the download, it
still comes back and says it has to have the original Program CD in order to
install. Users only option is to cancel after loosing all that time for
download and still no resolution to problem. Why does it give user the
option of "CD's no available" if it is going to require them anyway?

This is especially important now that those used to using Windows Update are
being encouraged to try Microsoft Update, and will not be expecting to be
asked for discs after they have been updating without them for years.

This seems like a deliberate MS trap to me, and the masses of pleas for help
in the Office Update newsgroup rather confirm my suspicions.

Also note that even after one has fixed the problems created by failed
'Office Updates', Windows Update still pesters u with pop up balloon, to
'update' and mess it all up again , every time you log on! (And, I might
add, that while it's insisting on the Office updates, it tends not to tell
one about updates for OE and IE!)
