Update of Office 2008 12.1.1 to 12.1.2

Version: 2008
Operating System: Mac OS X 10.5 (Leopard)
Processor: Intel

I did NOT have a problem installing the update to 12.1.1. However, with the newest update, I am getting the message:

"You cannot install Office 2008 12.1.2 Update on this volume. A version of the software required to install this update was not found on this volume."

Has the updating problem referred to in the April postings not yet been fixed? Will I have to Uninstall Office 2008, 12.1.1? If so, and I attempt to re-install from the disk, will I have to progress through 12.1.1, or may I update directly to 12.1.2?

Thank you.

Here is the steps to resolve this issue:

- Go into the hard drive/library/application support/and drag the Microsoft folder to the trash.

- Remove Office 2008 - by going into the Office 2008 folder/additional tools/remove Office/remove Office and select continue, when it finds a copy select continue and select Office 2008, go through the removal

- empty the trash

- install Office 2008 - perform all the updates

And if the version of Office 2008 is an "Upgrade," is this possible?

The requirements for that version are "Microsoft Office 98 Macintosh Edition suite or application; Any Microsoft Office for Mac 2001 - 2004 suite or application."

By trashing the Microsoft folder from Application Support and removing Office, will the installation program still be able to find the necessary licensed user components and install the suite?

Thank you.

Have you by any chance moved/removed any of the Office 2008 folder's
content? If you have - either manually or by using a utility that gets rid
of "unnecessary files" - I'm afraid reinstalling is your only option. If you
haven't reinstalling should not be necessary...

Here are 2 suggestions form another poster whose situation was similar
to yours:

====================================

Another member of the Mac user group I
am with has provided me with the answer to my problems regarding the above
error message.

You need to repair permissions with Disk Utility, then make sure that the MS
Office folder's permissions are set as follows: User: Read & Write; admin:
Read & Write and Everyone: Read Only. Permissions should be the same for all
contents of that folder.

Another option is to move all MS preference files to the desktop
temporarily, then run the installer. Restore the preferences to their
original location after installation.

====================================

Another approach if neither of those work:

-- Download the update from MS --Right click on the update file and click
"Show Package Contents" --Navigate to Contents -> Resources --You need to
modify the script: package_updatable. Remove these lines using Text Edit:

if not found_valid_version: sys.exit(48)

--Save then close. Now it will update.
