Office update tells me that I need to download Office 2003 Service Pack 2.
During the download it will tell me that the download was unsuccessful. I
have checked the corrections that it suggests that I do inorder to complete
this donwload but with no luck. Have not had any problems in the past
downloading updates to Office 2003.

Typhair:

I understand a CD is available for this troublesome update, but I'd be
careful and wait till people on this site are posting here that the CD
repaires/fixes the problems the download has. You're not the only one who
has had problems. You should try the virtualdr.com site to see how many
people there are having trouble! They were doing handstands to figure out
how to work around this download.

I'm not going to screw up my computer until MS or the good people at
www.virtualdr.com assure me this Service Pack 2 for Office is clean. Besides
I live in the country and only a dialup is available. It would take me two
hours to download this update. Oh well, meanwhile I'll monitor this site and
the site at virtualdr. Be a little patient. Good luck.

I downloaded the automatic update for Microsoft Office (same idea as the
automatic windows update) and with this automatic update itnotified me of
the required update and I was able to download and install the service pack
2003. Thank you for your infomration.

I have tried twice to download the Service Pack but each time lost the
connecton after 2 hours.
Do you know how I can get hold of the CD without paying £35 to Microsoft for
them to reply to an email ?
Thanks

BillyBoy, I'd say that if you're having trouble with the connection after 2
hours, you might want to see about having another faster site download it for
you, burn to a CD and then give it to you in person. I am not sure how
Microsoft is going to get around the $35.00 or Euro's as they will want to
charge you for their time.

Hi Matt
Thanks for your suggestion. I did manage to sort the problem by swiching
ISP and although the download took about 3 hours I was able to load SP2.
Thanks again

Try doing a repair install, then try the update again:

Method 1 – Open Word, go to Help – Select Detect and Repair

or use Method 2 -

1. Click Start, and then click Control Panel.
2. Click Add or Remove Programs.
3. Click the Office program that you want to repair, and then click Change.
4. In the Maintenance Mode Options dialog box, click Reinstall or Repair,
and then
click Next.
5. In the Reinstall or Repair Office dialog box, click Detect and Repair
errors in my
Office installation, and then click Install.
6. When the repair process is finished, run the update again.

Most likely you will need to have your Office CD handy.
