I cannot get the update to install at all. The automatic
feature works and shows what updates to install but
install is always unsuccessful.

Microsoft only allows 2 customer service request. what a
crock !

I had the same problem, and no support to be found except
here! Very frustrating! This is where I found the file
to run. I sure wish Microsoft would respond to this
problem! Thanks Diane!

do the updates download? if so, they are on your hard drive - find them and
run the exe.

MS is investigating it... thanks for posting the folder path, it'll make it
a lot easier for others.

I posed a message earlier that I had seen this on two
different machines (mine and my wife's). Somehow the
message wound up under a different thread. Your path
allowed both machines to be fixed. MANY THANKS!!! After
the fix, update has worked. What I noticed in common on
both machines may help with the solution. It appears
Microsoft doesn't like consistency (other than zero
support - consistent in that) and generated an
OfficeUpdate11 directory rather than using the old
OfficeUpdate directory. In both cases the installation
was of Office Student Edition as an update to a full
install of Office 2000 Pro. So, many of the patches
needed were 2000 patches and one was for 2003.
Interestingly, Word 2000 and Excel 2000 patches were
selected by Office Update. I wonder if the mixed versions
are the root of the problem. Well, that and Office 2000
patch files being placed in the OfficeUpdate11 directory.
It doesn't appear that the Office 2000 patches (even the
Word and Excel ones) hurt anything other than putting the
old Outlook icon back into the quickstart area. I bought
the 2003 for home but at work we use a lot of Open
Office. I'm one of the few MS Office users since most
people are on Suns. Interesting that support is much
better on Open Office than MS Office. I still haven't
received any reply to my 2003 support request. At work we
reported an Open Office bug and had alpha code fixes that
day. They may convert me yet.
