Update Office XP Professional

Hello,
I reinstalled Office XP Professional (Office 2002) on my new machine.
Using Microsoft Update Service, XP was perfectly updated but no update for
Office 2002 occurred.
MS lists all updates (37) for Office Professinal nicely on this web-page:
http://office.microsoft.com/en-us/downloads/CD010225741033.aspx
But I was not able to find the automated update service or cumulative
updates for Office Professional.
How can perform the updates effeciently without downloading and installing
each one-by-one?
Advice is highly appreciated, Hans.

Were you using Windows Update or Microsoft Update? When you first install
the OS only Windows Update shows. There is a link on the Windows Update
page to install Microsoft Update. To see if it has been installed click
Start and then look for it in the same area as Windows Update. (Since I use
XP set up in classic mode similar to NT I can't remember exactly where it
will show when Start is clicked.)

You can also update to SP 3 first by going to this web site, downloading the
larger installation package shown and install it first. You do not need to
install SP1 and/or SP2 prior to installing this update.

Hi,
First step was to switch to classic-mode then after I got on-line started
the upgrade process with the initial 'Windows Update' allowing to migrate to
'Microsoft Update'.
Once OS was updated, MS Office XP Prof. was installed successfully.

Tried with the link provided for SP3, but it throws the following MSG:

This MSG and more is written to Logfile: OHotfix(00001).log in:
<user>/local settings/temp/OHotfix/

Facts are:
- that Office Professional XP is installed and running well
- NO updates were applied using Windows Update as all .exe & .dlls are dated
2001 just like the files on the CD with the legal Office Version. As we know
SP3 was released in 2004.

I don't get it.
Thanks for other suggestions?

Download SP3 manually and the disable your Anti Virus and put the Office XP 2002 Pro
into your CD\DVD drive and install start the install of the SP3. After installation
enable your Anti Virus

Peter,
thanks for your suggestion.

Tried as you proposed:
- deactivating Antivirus
- Orig. CD in CD-Drive
no success.

The MSG is:
'The expected version of the product was not found on your system'
This is what happens when manually starting the downloaded
'OfficeXpSp3-kb832671-client-enu.exe'.
....................
The CD-Rom start spinning (it reads ok with filemanager) and the \Temp\files
are created:
Directory of C:\Documents and Settings\Hans Loepfe.CHIEFTEC\Local
Settings\IXP000.TMP

2009-06-19 00:50 <DIR> .
2009-06-19 00:50 <DIR> ..
2004-01-30 03:19 56'269'996 MAINSP3ff.msp
2002-10-04 10:00 127'059 ohotfix.exe
2009-06-19 00:57 7'277 ohotfix.ini
2002-03-14 12:31 16'384 ohotfixr.dll
2004-01-30 03:42 5'744'640 OWC10SP3ff.msp
5 File(s) 62'165'356 bytes
2 Dir(s) 30'657'298'432 bytes free

The upgrade process starts as it ask for license agreement and then throws
the MSG as indicated above.

The temp files are then deleted.
...................

I think there may be a problem with the path:
This is the way it's displayed in the logfile 'OHotfix(00001).log':
C:\DOCUME~1\HANSLO~1.CHI\LOCALS~1\Temp\IXP001.TMP\MAINSP3ff.msp

and this is the actual, real path:
C:\Documents and Settings\Hans Loepfe.CHIEFTEC\Local Settings\IXP000.TMP\

I think that 'ohotfix.exe' uses shortname paths and does not like longname
paths.

This longname path was created during installation of XP over an exisiting
XP version. I can imagine that this long pathname may be the cause of the
before mentioned upgrade problem.

So how can I rename a user folder other than replacing all entries for 'Hans
Loepfe.CHIEFTEC' with 'Hans Loepfe' in the registry ?

Thanks for feedback, Hans.

What error did you get. Did you use a Registry Tool of any kind lately ?
