Update OfficeXP installation point ore not?

Hallo.
Update OfficeXP installation point ore not?
I am using ohotfix to deploy all patches to my computers,
ohotfix run in computers start-up script.
After all computers are patched I thought I should update
the installation point with new updates. So I tried to
run a repair on Office, but the computer doesn't accept
my new updated files. I pointed to the old msi file and
the installations start again.
So if I using ohotfix to my client should I not update
the installation point also?

Hi, richoo2000,

You should update the installation point first, and then update the
workstations from there.

Hi.
Yes, but i don't want to update the clients from the
installation point because it's over 3000 clients. I can
not run the update script because REINSTALL take to long
time.

Okay, but then (as you have seen) the repair on Office won't work, because
you updated the installation point and it no longer matches what the
workstations understand as their source installation point. The product was
designed to behave that way.

This might help, or maybe you already know it:

Strategies for Updating Office XP Installations
http://www.microsoft.com/office/ork/updates/patch_oxpo2k.htm

It gives you information on the different types of updates and what best
strategy you can use for updating Office XP in a corporate environment.

Hope it's helpful--

Hi,

I agree wtih Susan that what you encountered is a expected behavior. I
would also suggest you first update the distribution point and then deploy
the update to the clients.

Have a nice day!

Arnold Gao

Thanks.
I have tried to patch my clients from my updated
installation point and its work very good... and good
speed.
But im little confusing now...
I installed Office XP unpatched "SP1" and after I
installed my Access 2002, FrontPage 2002, Publisher 2002
all with Sp1. I have this entire media patched also but
not it not published yet.
I run Office Xp update from the updated installation
point and its work very good.. But.. It upgraded all the
other applications also.. Good but how? :) If so I don't
need to redeploy this applications only change the media
for new installations.

Hi,

What did the "I have this entire media patched also but not it not
published yet" refer to?

Would you please describe the scenario in detail so that I can assist
further?

Thanks for your time!

Sincerely,

Arnold Gao
