Update question re MS Office 2007 SP1

T

Trish

Hi, a couple of days ago I downloaded and installed the above update, and it
clearly shows in my list of updates. Now when I go to Office Online and
check for updates, it saying I need to download this. Why is this so? It
is huge and takes up half my monthly download allowance, so I am naturally
reluctant to do this again unnecessarily. As a sort of separate question,
when my Windows Update runs, does that update Vista and MS Office? Many
thanks.

Normal for this to occur, do you have something else on your system like Expression Web?

It looks massive on the download site but it will only download what you need.

Thanks TaurArian. No I don't have Expression Web, just the standard MS
Office Pro 2007. I still cannot understand why it says i must download when
it is clearly showing in my list of updates. Thanks again.

Any other MS products installed on the computer?

Something is triggering it Trish, let it install, it will only install what it needs, not
the full download.
Office Update offers updates for Office programs that you do not have installed

Hi TaurArian and Peter

Thanks for your responses. Nothing else has been installed apart from MS
Office Professional 2007 and I can clearly see under my list of installed
updates is the "2007 Microsoft Office Suite Service Pack 1 (SP1)". When I go
to Microsoft Office Online and click the Check for Updates link, it says I
should download the new service pack for my Office 2007 products and there is
a link to "Office 2007 Service Pack 1". It is 218 MB which takes a big chunk
of my monthly download allowance.

As a separate question, does Windows Update find updates for Vista and
Microsoft Office or just Vista?

Thanks again to you both.

T

TaurArian

Okay, I see now. Trish, you go to the Office update site manually right, you check for
updates and you see:
Office 2007 Service Pack 1
Download the new service packs for your Office 2007 products.
a.. Office 2007 Service Pack 1
b.. Visio 2007 Service Pack 1
c.. Project 2007 Service Pack 1
More Office 2007 service packs

So it's not being offered by Automatic Updates.

Trish, you don't need it if you've installed it.

As for Vista updates, are you aware that Vista cannot use the Windows Update site?

The website has been replaced by Windows Update in Control Panel. If you want to check for
updates manually, follow these steps:
1. Open Windows Update by clicking the Start button, clicking All Programs, and then
clicking Windows Update.

2. In the left pane, click Check for updates.

You can either use Windows Upates or Microsoft Updates -

There are quite a few differences between Windows XP and Vista regarding obtaining
updates.
