Update required Windows/Word XP

Word keeps crashing on me with a fault notification stating that an update is
needed. When I have tried to update I get told "The CD symbol indicates that
this update may require your installation CD or network installation
location". The CD I have is corrupt and to the best of my knowledge I do not
have a network installation location, anyone know of any way I can update if
the CD is not available?
