Update SP1 on Office XP -- Error

When I try and install the SP1 Patch to Office XP, I get
the following error:

Error 1328. Error applying patch to file
C:\Config.Msi\PT6E7.tmp. It has probably been updated by
other means, and can no longer be modified by this
patch. For more information contact your patch vendor.
System Error: -1072807676

Every time I run the update, the error file is a
different file in c:\config.msi. I can press retry until
I am blue in the face and it still keeps popping up.

Now, the outlook login screen keeps popping up and asking
me to log into outlook. When I press "ok" or "cancel"
nothing happens. If I leave my computer for a long
period of time, I will have multiple outlook login
screens. The only time this login screen does not come
up is when outlook is actually up and running.

I read the following link:

and I tried to do this and it didn't work. The only way
I can get the outlook login screen to not keep popping up
is to uninstall office xp and then reinstall office xp.

Any help on getting this patch installed? Any help on
stopping outlook login screen from popping up?
