Update Status Manager

I understand how the status manager field works and know but have two
questions.

1. Is there any way to update this field for a given task/project via
PSI?
2. What column in the Published DB stores the value for each task for
this field?

Any respose to this??? I REALLY could use a way to either change the status
manager, or at the least check the status manager - or even somehow verify
whether the current user is the status manager for a given task!
