Update Status says I need all updates.

To start off, my installation of Office 2000 Pro is just a bit non-
standard. I'll get into that later. But I'm attemptiong to install the
critical updates MS posted recently but the Product Update page says I
still need SR1a as well as SP3 installed. When I look at the Help, About on
any Office component, it says SP3.

Is the source for the Help, About notice claiming "SP3" any different than
the source the Product Update ActiveX component interrogates to determine
what patches are needed?

If so, how can I get the two sources married?

This particular installation of Office 2000 started off in a Windows 2000
environment. I then installed Windows XP in a dual-boot configuration. Not
all applications were carried over into WinXP. So I decided to try to
install Office 2000 in WinXP with the destination the same folder as Office
2000 was installed in Windows 2000.

So I'm guessing something isn't aligned quite right. The WinXP installation
is getting the constant "Please wait while Windows configures..." window
before Access. Excel starts with the flash screen but still gets the
message. Word had the same problem until I uninstalled and re-installed it.
Word doesn't get the message box anymore.

Hi Brian,

Check to see if you can complete Detect & Repair
from Help=>About in an Office app. If not then
the update listed may be coming from the shared
mso9.dll file. SR1a +SP3 is the baseline needed
to install post SP3 updates, including the recent
Office security updates. If you have a Microsoft Office
listing in Add/Remove Programs and separate
listings for standalone Office apps (Word, Publisher,
FrontPage) that were installed later the updates
may not have been applied to those yet.
