Did you ever get this working? I'm running some bleeding edge machines here and am also having the same issues. I'd like to completely upgrade to 2007 on all of my work machines, but if this isn't resolved, I'm just not going to be able to use 2007 in my fast paced working environment. I need to keep my images large in the file and crop as needed as my clients need me to make changes such as "let's actually include more of the image...on second thought maybe not" I can't waste time in photoshop or illustrator, resave the image, and then reimport. I need to be able to crop what is needed, when it's needed, and keep it all print quality. Anyone have a solution yet?

PPT 2007 - Resizing pictures is very very slow

Sorry if this has been covered. I have looked through a good number of back
posts and can't see anything recent

My problem is that resizing pictures on a slide using 2007 is painfully slow
whereas it was OK using 2003. I have tried the printer driver solution
recommended in various places and updated graphic card drivers and altered
acceleration settings till the cows come home but its all still very slow.
Any help would be appreciated. I am on a deadline for a presentation and am
thinking of going back to 2003

Thanks. Joe.

I would check into your antivirus application and see if it has an Office
plug-in. For example, see http://www.pptfaq.com/FAQ00387.ht

I'd also check for add-ins. If you head to Office Button | PPT Options |
Add-ins, what's listed there

Thanks for the reponse. The only active add in is Adobe 9 pdf maker. I
pulled off the anti virus (AVG) altogether just to be sure the office
plug-in was killed off. Been meaning to do this for a while anyway. No
improvement sad to say. Looks like 2003 is beckoning - shame because I
really like a lot of things about PPT 2007

Well, I don't think Acrobat PDFMaker is known for slowing 2007
significantly, but it might be worth disabling as a test

I think AVG does have an Office plug-in, but I don't know if uninstalling it
renders the plug-in nil or not

Ah, here

Go to Start | Run and typ

regsvr32 /u "C:\Program Files\AVG\AVG8\avgoff2k.dll

Hi Joe

I was working on a slide the other day and trying to drag the corner of the
picture to resize was painful - it was responding so slowly that it was 2-3
seconds behind my mouse movements making it impossible to work with. I
looked at the original picture file and realised it was over 2MG so I used
the compress picture tool and voila, no noticeable loss of sharpness in the
picture but instantaneous resizing with my mouse movements. Just a thought.

PPT 2003 had no problems with. Still no real improvement. Matter of fact I
regularly resized much larger pics in PPT 2003 with ease. I am getting a
bit stuck but will keep on trying to find a solution, well for a little
while longer as I need to get the presentation done pretty soon. Joe.

Hi Joe,

If it is any consolation, I am having the same problem on a rather fast
machine. If I find a solution, I'll holler. Bit for me, it takes about 5
seconds to respond after cropping an image. Or it takes as long to display
the screen after going to a new slide. I've got 2007 on Vista. What is your
operating system? Do you have a network printer installed? Have you tried
running PowerPoint as Administrator?

Hello Glen - Thanks for the response. I am on XP SP3 patched up to date.
No network printer. Running PPT as Administrator. I am wondering about how
much impact a newer graphics card might have. I have an nvidia geforce fx
5200 agp card with 128mb on board the card. However I have read of folk
with higher spec cards with the same problem. I am sorry not to be bringing
much by way of help here, as I usually manage to get somewhere with this
kind of problem eventually. However as I have got to get a presentation
done for a deadline I am consigned to asking questions in the hope of
finding a solution. Equally if by some stroke of good fortune I get this
sorted out I will post whatever solution I happen accross. Joe.

Hi Joe

Do you need the pictures to be the same size or are you adjusting each one
by eye? I ask as there are a few solutions if you know what size they should
be or they all need to be the same size.
1. If you know the size each should be but they are different use the size
box on the picture tools format tab.
2. If they all need to be the same I would either create a separate file
using the photoalbum feature then new slide -> reuse slide to bring them in
OR I would get one right then use the 'pick up object style'/'apply object
style' pipette (you will need to add these buttons to your QAT - They are
under the 'all commands' list).
3. Use the picture placeholder. Not one I use but I'm sure if I learned how
I would wonder why I never used it before :)

Hope that helps - I'm just throwing out anything I can think of that might
be of use :)
