Updated Office, now can't read documents

I just got a new laptop computer last week with Office
XP. Today I installed all of the office updates, and now
I can't open any of my office documents. It just
says "Unable to read file" when I try to open anything!
Help!

Go to control panel, add/remove programs and uninstall
those updates you did.
See if that works.

This seems to be a common problem (to which I fell victim today). I fixed mine by deleting a Norton AV plug-in for Office which basically lets NAV screen all opened files. There is one post in this mailing list that points to a KB on MS's site regarding which NAV file to delete. Going and backing out changes you made (e.g. updates) is not the way to go and will cost you time and energy. Good luck!
