Updateing Forms While Other Users Are In

J

Janet

Hello,

I am fairly new to Access 2000. I have been using Access
1997 for awhile. I realized that in Access 2000 you can
not update the designs of or create new forms, reports,
macros or modules while other users are in. Everything
that I have looked at says that you just can't. I have
made a copy of the database and work on that but I can not
even export or copy the new form in to the database until
everyone is out. Since we are here long hours, this is
not very fesible. Does anyone know a way that you can get
around this. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Very Frustrated,

Janet

Sorry but you can't make design changes in 2000 like you
could in 97. It's just a fact that you have to deal
with. The way I handle it is by using split databases
(Tables in one mdb and everyting else in another and the
two linked together) I make design changes to a local
copy and the copy it up to the server when I 'm ready for
others to use it. That way I only need to kick everyone
out for less than a minute while placing the copy on the
server.

I handle this similar to the way GD mentioned, but I put the front-end on
each user's computer. If the changes aren't critical that they be
immediately passed to every user I use the logon script to send the new
front-end over the next time the use logs on.

Thank you for resonding. The way that you are handling it
is the way that I am also but was hoping that maybe there
was a way to not have to do it that way that I did not
know about. Thanks for your help.
