Updateing XP Templates to Lock in 2007

I have a large quantity of templates that were created in Word XP. The
Templates were locked and when a new document was created using these
templates, the new document remained locked.

Now, when I create a new document with these templates in 2007, the new doc
is not locked. Is there any way to change tis behavior? I understand that
2007 uses content controls. Is there a way to convert old templates easily
to the new format? Re-creating these is a major undertaking.

New documents based on templates created in an earlier version should be
locked as well. This behavior didn't change. How are you creating new
documents based on the template? That is, what steps are you using exactly?

Content controls are a new feature in Word 2007 and if you want to use them
you'd need to replace your form fields with content controls. Note that you
can still use the old form fields in documents saved in the new file
format -- you're not forced to use content controls and depending on what
you want to do and the version of Word those using your templates have
installed you may not want to use content controls.

I should clarify one point. The new documents are in fact locked, however
they do not maintain passwords and protection can be stopped without using a
password.

To create a new document, I select New and then select a template file. I
then save as a document file.

Hmmm... I can reproduce this. :-( Let me check into it and see if I can find
any information. Note that if I save the template as a Word 97-2003 template
then a password is required to unlock the template. If you aren't using any
of the new Word 2007 features then perhaps that's a workaround until a fix
can be obtained??

Hi Jon,

I'm in the process of trying to find out more about this, basically I'm
trying to determine if it's a known issue and if not get a bug filed on it,
and I need the operating system you are using and build number. To find the
build, click the Office Button, click Word Options, click Resources, then
click the About button. You should see the build at the top. It's the number
in parentheses next to the application name.

Thanks!
