updater 11.3 problems-needs to close

I have just updated Office 2004 for mac OSX with the 11.3 updater.
Previously everything was fine. Now when I open word, PPT, or excel, i
get an immediate "MS word or powerpoint or excel needs to close. We
apologize for the inconvenience." The application hangs when running
the first run configuration routine during the visual basic portion,
which I believe is the last part. Thereafter the applications hang and
must be force quit. the MS error reporting app comes up and asks
whether to send the error data and gives an option to restart the app,
but this is inevitably unsuccessful and results in the same hang and
error. I tried reinstalling from the original disk, updating
incrementally to 11.2.6, but to no avail. A previous version archived
to another boot disk still works fine. I have tried removing the MS
user data folder from users/documents and this did not help. I am at a
loss.

Yes, I have run the Repair Disk Permissions after installing. I am now
working on a different computer to communicate. Entourage shows out of
memory for almost every email I open. Besides it will not show the html
messages correctly, even though the peferences have not changed from
previously when everything was work flawlessly. Any idea what to do to
correct.

Thanks,

Alex

Dear CyberTaz-

I did use disk utility to repair permissions. I also ran Tech Tool 4
and it did not find any flle problems. I had used remove office to
clear out any old files and reinstalled three times.

I appreciate your website suggestion and will work on the general
repairs suggested there such as clearing the cache and deleting
preferences and the normal template. Thanks for the tips. No success
yet, but hope.

Create a new User in System Preferences. Test Entourage in the new User. If
you are still experiencing problems, you should consider doing an Archive
and Install.

Ok, the Entourage problem has been cleared up. Now, however, when Word
is opened it starts telling me my fonts are all corrupt. It starts
going through every font and a window opens saying the fonts are
corrupt. I have been using Font Agent Pro for some time and have had no
problems with fonts in Word. Has been working flawlessly. Now, I cannot
open word without going through every font where a window opens and
says each and every font is corrupt. Any idea why this now?

The Word problem is not related to the Entourage problem you were
experiencing. Have a look at the following page for a couple of solutions
which might work for you:

Also, out of curiosity, could you please tell us how you solved the
Entourage problem? Did you create a new Mac OS X user account as Diane
suggested?
