Microsoft has released updaters for Office 2004 and Office X:
Microsoft Office 2004 for Mac Update 11.3.2
<http://www.microsoft.com/mac/downloads.aspx?pid=download&location=/mac/down
load/Office2004/Office2004_1132.xml&secid=4&ssid=32&flgnosysreq=True>
Microsoft Office v. X for Mac Update 10.1.9
<http://www.microsoft.com/mac/downloads.aspx?pid=download&location=/mac/down
load/OFFICEX/OfficeX_12_19_2006.xml&secid=5&ssid=33&flgnosysreq=True>
This new update should remove the pre-release Dec. 12 version and install
the fully tested application fixes.
So far no one has reported problems. Links and more info here:

A couple of tips on installing:
1) Check your Startup Items for multiple copies of Microsoft Database
daemon. If you have more than one, delete all and Entourage will create a
new one when it launches.
2) Quit any applications that are running, including virus-protection
applications, all Office applications, Microsoft Messenger for Mac, and
Office Notifications, because they might interfere with installation.Office
Notifications are often overlooked. Quitting the Microsoft Database daemon
is the same as quitting Notifications. Options to turn off Microsoft
Database daemon:
1) In Entourage Menu select "Turn off Office Notifications"
2) Double-click the Office Notifications program, located in the Microsoft
Office X/Office folder. On the Office Notifications menu, click Turn Off
Office Notifications.
3) Fire up 'Process Viewer' (Panther renames to Activity Monitor), look for
'database daemon' and choose 'quit process' from the processes menu (just do
a normal quit, not a forced quit).
4) Easiest way.....use this script:
tell application "Microsoft Database daemon" to quit
